Five Key Positions in Volleyball Field |

The five key positions in Volleyball field are crucial in planning for the strategy of a Volleyball game. However these must be differed from the formations of the team, which is basically the layout of the team, or the pattern in which the team is spread out. The five key positions in Volleyball field are usually found in the professional and advanced teams. Accordingly, players are assigned duties and responsibilities based on their individual talent, skills and physical agility. Players specialization as is the technical term for the same is different from the rotational positions, when the players rotate at the time of the serve after every rally. Once the serve is contacted, the players of the serving team can go back to their respective assigned positions on the court.
The five key positions in Volleyball field are those of Setters, Liberos, Middle Hitters or Middle Blockers, Outside Hitters and Right Side Hitters or Opposite Hitters. The setters are the strategic players who set into motion the offensive strategy of the team against the opponent. They decide on who the attacker will be in that particular rally and control the offensive moves of the team. The Liberos are the 'free' persons, dressed in different colors, who are the defensive players of the team. They are the players who are responsible for receiving the attacks, and usually are the quickest in the team. The Middle Blockers or Middle Hitters are placed strategically for blocking and usually standing right next to the setter.

There are usually two such players in professional teams. The Outside Hitters are placed to attack from outside the left part of court sidelines. The Opposite Hitters or Right Side Hitters are responsible for attacking from the right side of the court, thus facing directly the Outside Hitters of the opponent's side.
